Bio
Peter Nelson-King grew up on the Eastside and showed a talent for music at an early age. Starting out on piano from grade school, they began on trumpet at 13 and quickly distinguished themself on the instrument, accruing many honors in Junior High and High School. They attended University of Puget Sound and graduated with a Bachelors in Music Performance, having won the school's concerto competition and its highest music scholarship, and went on to earn a Masters in Trumpet Performance from Boston University.
Since having returned to the Seattle area, Peter has carved out a unique niche as a classical ensemble performer and as a soloist and chamber musician. They perform regularly with Lake Washington Symphony Orchestra, Brass Band Northwest and the experimental jazz ensemble Scrambler, and is a frequent guest with Seattle Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra, University of Washington Wind Ensemble, and other large ensembles in the area. They mount several solo and chamber recitals each year, specializing in discovering and promoting unjustly neglected classical works; many of their recitals have been sponsored by the Wayward Music Series at the Chapel Performance Space in Seattle's Good Shepherd Center. Most recently they have worked with Seattle's poetry scene to create new opportunities for writers and musicians to collaborate. Additionally, they are active as a private teacher, church performer, school accompanist and brass clinician.
