Bio

Libby Gray is an experienced performer and teacher of the flute. Currently she is co-principal flute of Philharmonia Northwest and performs with the Seattle Wind Symphony. She has held Principal Flute positions in the Fort Collins Symphony and the South Dakota Symphony, and has performed with the Colorado Symphony, Cheyenne Symphony, Orchestra Seattle, Bellevue Philharmonic, and Seattle Youth Symphony. She holds a Master’s of Music from Northwestern University (Evanston, IL), and a Bachelor’s of Music Performance from the University of Washington.

Libby enjoys working with people of all ages and abilities. Her teaching experience includes private lessons in Houston, leading clinics in schools in South Dakota, working as a camp counselor at Marrowstone Music Festival, and teaching beginning flute at Northshore Middle School. Her students have played with both Bellevue and Seattle Youth Symphonies and participated in competitions.

Libby has a good sense of humor and uses a positive-reinforcement approach. Focus in lessons includes proper embouchure, hand position, fingerings, music theory, and music history. Students practice scales, etudes, duets, band music, and solos. She is originally from Kirkland.
