Bio
Andrew takes pride in helping students revive their love of music and joy in touching something intangible and larger than themselves when they play their violins. Studying violin or viola with Andrew is not merely about earning a grade or prize but rather to grow through the learning process not just as a musician but a whole person.
The lessons will emphasize form and posture in order to set students up for maximum success. Scale knowledge, music theory and improvisation are regularly incorporated, so ultimately a student can be equipped to practice effectively and teach themselves at home. Preferred lesson materials include: the Pascale method (for beginners), the O'Connor method, Hrimaly Scales studies, Wohlfahrt, Mazas and Kreutzer to name a few. There are also three planned recitals each year, one being outdoors.
Andrew studied at the Wheaton Conservatory of Music near Chicago earning a Bachelors in Music and at Sacramento State with Ian Swensen of the San Francisco Conservatory. He earned a Master's in Music Performance at Sac State. He also spent four years teaching music and English in China and can communicate in Mandarin. He has lives in Monroe with his lovely wife and four kids.
